He was survived by his mother, Dorothy Pence of Newport, Kentucky; his wife, Merlie (Baugh) Pence (married January 11, 1939 in Eubank, Kentucky); his daughter, Tessa Lynn (Pence) Monroe of Eubank, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Mikie Monroe of Eubank, Kentucky, Shonda Monroe of Eubank, Kentucky, and Teresa Girdler of Somerset, Kentucky; his brothers, Felix Pence of Cincinnati, Ohio, Arnold Pence of Burlington, Kentucky, and Enoch Yantz of Waynesburg, Kentucky; his sisters, Edna Gadberry of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mildred Rhorer of Cincinnati, Ohio, Christine Therkeld of Newport, Kentucky, Nora Wilhelm of Independence, Kentucky, Loraine Kinman of Covington, Kentucky, Margie Singleton of Cincinnati, Ohio, Sarah Padgett of Waynesburg, Kentucky, Bessie Padgett of Waynesburg, Kentucky, Ethel Padgett of Waynesburg, Kentucky, and Barbara Weaver of Crab Orchard, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his father, R.G. Yantz.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 17, 1979 at the Polly Ann Baptist Church with Reverend David Johnson, Reverend Mike Mullins, and Reverend Sammy Adkins officiating.

Barnett Funeral Home in Waynesburg, Kentucky was in charge of arrangements.
