Don Harding officiating. Interment followed in Egger Cemetery, Caledonia, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.

Mrs. Schamel was born December 30, 1931 in Caledonia, MS to the late Hoyle Ross and Virgie Andrews Grant. She was a co-owner of Sharon Nursery for over 40 years. Mrs. Schamel was a member of Caledonia United Pentecostal Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Schamel is preceded in death by her mothers – Virgie Andrews Grant and Louise Horst Grant Simpson; grandson – Stephen Dale Reese; son-in-law – Paul DiCicco; brother-in-law – Bill Griffin; and nephew – Carl Griffin.

Mrs. Schamel is survived by her husband of 69 years – Jack Allen Schamel, Caledonia, MS; daughters, Susan (Dale) Reese, Caledonia, MS, Jacqueline DiCicco, Columbus, MS, and Vickie (Rick) Sample, Valley Center, KS; grandson – Phillip DiCicco; great grandchildren – Jackson Paul DiCicco, Katie Hopper, Tori (Mickey) Allen, Anna (Brad) Seawright; great great grandchildren – McKinley, Harlow, Stella Kate, Ella, Charlie, and Noah; sisters – Dorothy Griffin and Edith (Robin) Jordan; brother – Michael (Shirley) Grant; sister-in-law – Dalannis Bishop; family to her– Jane Windle, Jean and John DiCicco and Natalie Allstot and a host of nieces and nephews.

Myra was a person who cared deeply about everyone. That thoughtful and caring nature remained throughout her life. No one was insignificant or unimportant in her eyes. People mattered to Myra. She was an encourager. It was her gift. She used it well. In small ways and big ways, through her words and good deeds, with her warm smile and thoughtfulness, she encouraged so many. Her telephone calls which started, “I just needed to hear your voice,” or “You were on my mind today” will be missed by so many family members and friends.

With her alert mind and sharp memory, she had a gift of remembering everyone's names as well as their kids' names, their phone numbers, and every detail of their lives - from the customers at Sharon Nursery, to the clerks at Kroger. She was a friend to all and had a wonderful way of affirming everyone she met.

Myra was a thoughtful person, always thinking of others and ways to serve them. For years, she made old-fashioned sugar cookies each week to give to the nurses and doctors in the Emergency Room at Baptist, where her grandson Phillip worked.

She enjoyed giving and gave generously. Each Christmas she would make divinity candy for family and friends. This labor of love would continue until she could no longer hold the hand-mixer.

Myra loved her doctors and knew all the staff in their offices and would call to check on them. Thank you to the doctors and staff at Columbus Orthopedic, the Urology Group, Gentiva, Internal Medicine, Bennett Opthalmology, Westmoreland Dermatology and Liberty Heart Center. Each of you that answered the calls was important to her.

She showed her love and affection for others in many ways through her kindness and generous heart, her soft touch, her gifts, and her encouragement. Myra was beloved by her friends and family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She had a special love for Beth and Jack Reed, Lauren and Wiley Hutchins and considered them part of her family. Her grandsons Stephen and Phillip were her heart. And Jackson brought her joy just to hear his name.

If she were here, she would want to send her love to Dot, Carol, Cam, Chris and Cheryl for bringing her so much joy and love and for being there when she needed you most.

Pallbearers were Phillip DiCicco, Jackson DiCicco, Michael Grant, Eric Grant, Andy Grant and Chris Griffin.
