MRS. IRENE SCANLON FIRE CHIEF'S MOTHER

LYNN - Mrs. M. Irene Scanlon 84, 40 Lebel Road, formerly of 120 Millard Ave., died Sunday after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Scanlon was the widow of former Fire Chief Joseph E. Scanlon Sr., and the mother of the city's present fire chief, Joseph E. Scanlon, Jr.
Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Hannah (Ryan) Collins. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart schools, a member
of St. Rita's Court, Catholic Order of Foresters, and a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield.

Mrs. Scanlon also leaves a sister, Mrs. Vera Player of Lynn; two grandsons, Ward 1 Councilor Joseph E. Scanlon III and Terence M. Scanlon;
a granddaughter, Mrs. Patricia Doody of Lynn; a great-grandson Derek Doody of Lynn; and several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Arleen Stowell of Rochester, N.H. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., followed by a mass at 10 in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
