Phil was born in Oklahoma on May 26, 1945. He was a consummate salesman & had a genuine gift of gab. He never met a stranger & loved everyone he met and they instantly loved him. His gift of communication began at the age of 13 when he got his first job working at Coit’s Drive-In, even selling Christmas trees on their lot during the holidays. He joined the Army National Guard after graduating Capitol Hill High School in 1963. He went on to a career at Scrivner Food Service which eventually led him to retiring from Sysco Food Service after 30+ years. He loved God, his family and his church. He was a deacon at Southern Hills Baptist Church for many years & a member of the Gideon’s. It is hard to put into words what an incredible, kind, generous & compassionate man Phil was. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla; daughters, Dorraine Matheson of Yukon, Sabrina & Dane Yaw of Norman; sons Jason & Debbie Hayes of OKC, Jeremy & Melissa Hayes of OKC; his grandchildren Alix & Paiton Yaw, Emma, Cooper & Landry Hayes, and Carter & Lairyn Hayes were his light and loves. He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Matheson and son Phillip(Tony)Matheson II. Visitation will be 12-8 Sat. & Sun. at Vondel Smith Mortuary 6934 S. Western. Funeral services will be held 10AM Monday, Aug. 29. 2016 at Southern Hills Baptist Church 8601 S. Pennsylvania Ave. OKC. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made in his name at 1040i.org. Friends may leave condolences for the family at vondelsmithmortuary.com.
