CIVIL WAR: He enlisted on 26 Dec 1863 as a Private. On 31 Jan 1864, he mustered into Co A, 5th IL U.S. Cavalry at Springfield, Illinois. The war was over April, 1865, but the 5th IL Cavalry did not officially muster out until 28 Oct 1865 and were not discharged until 30 Oct 1865. He had served three years. His occupation was Farmer, he was 32 years old, 5'6" tall, light hair, blue eyes and sandy complexion

Zac and Ann were married in August of 1856 in Cumberland Co, Illinois - but there is no official marriage record because all records in Cumberland Co, before 1885, were destroyed in a fire.

Zac was one of seven brothers who served in the Civil War!

Zacheus was a favorite first name in his mother's Key family, including his maternal grandfather Zacheus, and going back to an Uncle Zacheus born in 1725.
