John Joseph Falkenstein, age 84, went home to be with the Lord on July 26, 2016.

John was one of 12 children born to George and Mary (Schmidt) Falkenstein. He lived in the Akron and Mogadore areas all of his life. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Navy and National Guard, John was a very proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Akron for over 30 years, and enjoyed playing golf in his spare time.

He is survived by his loving partner, Janice Glunt; sons, Darrell (Joyce), Tim (Kathy) and Jody; grandchildren, Jake, Jessie, Lee and Keith; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Julianna, Kloey and Emily; brother, George (June); sister, Irene; and also Janice's extended family.

Friends and family will be received Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 11 a.m. at Nativity of the Lord Jesus Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Road (at Killian Road), Akron, Ohio 44312 with Father David Halaiko presiding. Burial with military honors will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Suite E, Green, OH 44685.
