La Var F Alvey passed away at home on August 21, 2016, at the age of 83. He was under the care of his loving family and Aspen Home Health and Hospice.

La Var was born on August 19, 1933, to Sarah Elizabeth Finn and Alfred Lionel Alvey in Idaho Falls, ID. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls.

On December 12, 1951, he married Elaine Young in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were blessed with six children.

La Var was an extremely hard working and dedicated man. He worked for many years in the petroleum business: first, for Forde Johnson, then managing businesses for Max Nadauld. When he was able he bought his own business. He owned and managed several Husky service stations in the area as well as distributing petroleum products in and around Idaho Falls.

La Var worked tirelessly to make sure that his family never went without. When he did take time off work to play the family enjoyed boating, jetskiing, camping and snowmobiling together. He enjoyed riding horses in the posse and chariot racing. La Var and Elaine took numerous vacations together, both for business and pleasure.

He was a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many capacities in the Church including High Councilman, Bishopric member, Elder's Quorum Presidency, Regional Sports Director, and president of the Stake MIA. He was in charge of Darby's girl's camp for ten stakes for four years and attended Darby camp for twenty six years in a row. He oversaw the Taylorview Stake Farm for ten years. He was the 'go to' person for anything that needed to be fixed at the Stake Church.

On April 19, 1998, Elaine, his companion of 46 years, passed away.

La Var married Marlena Tyler on September 11, 1998. Together they enjoyed throwing many fun parties with good friends. They loved to take trips to beautiful places throughout Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Early in their marriage La Var's health began to fail and Marlena became his loving and devoted caretaker.

La Var is survived by his wife, Marlena; children, Kathy (Daryl) Jones of Idaho Falls, Mark

(Ginni) Alvey of Chandler AZ, Debi (Russ) Olsen of Salt Lake City, UT, Jeff (Christine) Alvey of Harrisville, UT; Richard Alvey of Idaho Falls and Brad (Jamie) Alvey of Idaho Falls; a sister, Yvonne (Wayne) Olsen of lona, ID; 22 grand children and 19 great grand children.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine Alvey, his parents, Alfred and Sarah Alvey, a sister, DeeAnn Malone, a grandson, Michael Alvey and a daughter -in-law, Cherise Alvey.

La Var was a man of service. He was always there to help, no matter who asked or what they asked for. He was looked up to by all he worked and served with. He was a wonderful example to his children who love and respect him for all he's done for them. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m on Saturday, Aug.27, 2016, at the Idaho Falls LDS Home Ranch Ward, 2051 S. Emerson Ave. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave, and one hour prior to Saturday's services at the church. Burial will be at the Taylor Cemetery.
