Clayton Douglas Johnson, a resident of Beggs, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016 in Beggs. He was 57 years of age. Clayton was born October 8, 1958 in Beggs to the late Ernest and Helen Catherine (Payton) Johnson.

He attended Beggs Public Schools and was a fullback on the state championship football team, although his greatest love was to play baseball. Clayton graduated from Beggs High School in 1976 and in 1980 earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism at Northeastern State University. He later returned to Northeastern State University and graduated with a State of Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in 2000. Clayton taught school in Houston for several years and after returning to Oklahoma, he was a substitute teacher in Tulsa. Later, Clayton became a security guard and was working for Baker-Hughes at the time of his death. He was a loyal Oakland Raiders fan and was a member of the Crosstown Pentecostal Holiness Church in Okmulgee.

Clayton was preceded in passing by his parents, wife, Carolyn Vonn (Broussard) Johnson, a daughter, Anna Marie Johnson, a sister, Connie Thompson and a brother, Tommie Johnson.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Amanda Shaffer, a brother, James W. Johnson and wife Judy, sisters, Kathleen Wilson, LouWanda Johnson and Rosie Lee Johnson, grandchildren, Aubrey Shaffer and Autumn Shaffer, his former wife, Priscilla Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Beggs with Reverend Troy Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery.
