Alberta “Bertie” Waldron Agnew, 92, of Roanoke, VA, passed on Sunday night, October25, 2020. She was born on June 21, 1928 to the late Walter Waldron and Ernie Chisom Waldron. She was preceded in death by six older siblings and a granddaughter, Kylie Agnew from Colorado.
She was married to the late Henry Evans Agnew for 59 years before he passed away. They had five children together, thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren with number fifteen due in December. Bertie was a person who loved to play games, watch college basketball, bowled in several leagues, travel and especially loved boot scootin’ to country music up until she was 89 years young.
She is survived by her fur baby, Buddy; sister, Diane McCrickard; her children, Kathy Agnew (Jim Arnold) of Oregon, Terry Agnew of Roanoke, Sheila Edmondson (Jeff) of Roanoke, Mark Agnew (Dominique) of Maryland and Sherri Harrison (Chris) of New Mexico. Grandchildren are Wesley Nisbett (Kim) of CA, Jason Edmondson (Faith) of GA, Heather Edmondson of Roanoke, Eric Agnew, (Lindsay) of CA, Dr. Alicia Bays (Matt) of FL, Gisele Wyne (Kevin) of AZ, Chantal Agnew of CO, Andre Agnew of MD, Dmitri Agnew of WV, Taylor Harrison of NM, Ally Harrison of NM and Kristen Harrison of NM and many nieces and nephews.

Thank you to all of the selfless workers in the Memory Care Unit and the COVID-19 Unit at Friendship Nursing Home who cared for her during the last year of her life.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm on Sunday, November 1, 2020, at Oakey's North Chapel with the Dr. Darryl G. Crim officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the National D-Day Memorial, P.O. Box 77, Bedford, VA 24523 or to Angels of Assisi. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020 at Oakey's North Chapel. Due to the unusual times of COVID-19, at the funeral service we will practice social distancing and wearing masks and will also have the service live-streamed via Oakey’s Funeral Service Facebook page.
