Charity Louisa Marshall was born in Warren county, Indiana, January 24, 1841, and died December 22, 1926, aged 85 years, 10 months and 28 days.
At the age of sixteen years she came to Iowa with her father and brothers and sisters where they lived in Middle Fork township until her marriage in 1870 to Edwin Bennett, who preceded her in death twenty-six years. To this union were born two children, Lucius, who died in infancy, and Addie, who has always been her mother's companion.
At her marriage in the spring of 1870 they came to the farm in Benton township where she lived continuously for fifty-four years, then came to Delphos where she spent the remaining years of her life at the home of her daughter.
She was an invalid for seven years but was always patient and uncomplaining. She was ever industrious and energetic and thoughtful for the comfort of others and only a few weeks before her passing she was busy preparing scrap books to be sent to the hospital for the enjoyment of others.
She became a christian at an early age, afterwards joining the United Brethren church at the school house on the farm. Later she became a member of the Baptist church.
She leaves to mourn her loss one daughter, Addie Seaton, one grandson, Clay Seaton, of Delphos, one brother, Isaac Marshall, of Redding, and nephews and nieces.
"There is no death! The stars go down
To rise upon some fairer shore.
And bright in Heaven's jeweled crown
They shine forever more."
The services which were held at the Baptist church Friday, December 24, at eleven o'clock were conducted by Rev. Orr Campbell, of Madrid, Iowa, and interment made at Forest Home cemetery at the home farm.
For the helpfulness of their friends the family desires to express their sincere thanks.
