The Abilene Reporter-News, Sunday, January 7, 1945 - "WITH THE SERVICES -
Cpl. Jack Steen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Steen and grandson of Mrs. J. G. (should be G. J.) Steen of Moran, has been slightly wounded in action of German front in Belgium sector. He was wounded Dec. 14th according to word reaching his parents, Dec. 28th."

George Jackson (Jack) Steen, 77, died Saturday, June 16, 2001 at his home in Austin. He was buried at Clifton memorial Park in Bosque County. --

Mr. Steen was born November 19, 1923 on a stock farm in the Pueblo Community of Callahan County, eight miles southeast of Moran. He attended school at Moran until he moved to Austin with his parents in 1939. --

Mr. Steen served in the U.S. Army during both World War II and the Korean conflict. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in Germany in 1944. He served as a field artillery instructor during his Army career and retired from the Army in 1966 as Sergeant First Class. --

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy F. Steen and Alma Gunn Steen, and by one brother, Newt W. Steen."
