Mr. Matthew Van Buren Cook was born May 14th, 1932 to the late Roy and Birdie L. Cook. He departed this life on Monday, April 18, 2016.

He graduated from Aycock High School in Rockdale, TX and graduated as Valedictorian of his class in May, 1951. He also served in the United States Army. He graduated from Huston-Tillotson College, now University, the summer of 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education.

He professed a hope in Christ at an early age. In earlier years he attended Springfield Baptist Church, Rockdale, TX, Simpson United Methodist Church, and later moved his membership to Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. He was active in the church choir, the men's ministry, the senior ministry, and a church school scholar.

Matthew adored his family, especially his wife and loved attending family gatherings. He captured many memories of family and friends with his favorite hobby of taking pictures. You would never see him without a camera. He was always friendly and loved to fellowship with all. He knew no stranger.

He is preceded in death by his seven siblings; Elsa Mae, Sylvester, Selma Lee, Leroy Alton, Clista Alvena, and Denolis Vivian.

He leaves to cherish his memory his best friend and loving wife V. LaVerne Cook, two sons Darwin V.B. Cook (Keisha), Steven L. Cook (Pablyn) both of Austin, Texas, and daughter Angela D. Fazarro (Dominick) of Allen, Texas, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. --King-Tears Mortuary, Austin, TX
