Robert Charles Kramer, age 90, of Kiel, died on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He was born February 24, 1926 in Maplewood, Wisconsin, son of the late Henry & Frieda (Haucke) Kramer.

Upon hearing freedom’s call, Bob valiantly served during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps. Following his honorable discharge, Bob married Dolores Tenpas on July 19, 1952; she preceded him in death on November 3, 1990. He later married Elaine Krueger, nee Plate on December 27, 1991 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kiel; she preceded him in death earlier this year in January.

Robert earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science from UW Madison and began his working career with Lake to Lake Dairy, now known as Land O’Lakes. After working in the lab at Lake to Lake for a number of years, Bob started a residential milk delivery business distributing Lake to Lake dairy products to homes and stores in Kiel and the surrounding area. In 1975, he sold the delivery business and returned to Lake to Lake as plant manager until his retirement in February of 1991.

Bob’s love of his Lord and his faith were paramount in his life, guiding him step by step every day. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiel where he served as an usher, on the church council, and on numerous church committees. Bob also was instrumental in starting the elementary school at Trinity knowing that a strong Lutheran education benefits not only the child, but the many and various places these children would lay down roots in life.

He also loved Kiel and devoted time in various organizations supporting his community. He was an active member of the Kiel Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce, served on the board of directors for Great Northern Bank and East-Central Cooperation, and volunteered time with other various committees and organizations throughout the area.

In the free time Bob found, he enjoyed time spent out on the golf course ‘swinging the sticks’ with friends and the members of the Monday Night Golf League. With many years of practice and a touch of good fortune, Bob got his first hole in one this past May at the age of 90! He also enjoyed traveling, watching Packer and Brewer games, and tending to his special apple trees and meticulously maintained vegetable garden.

This humble man who was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather will be greatly missed by all those who knew him and were touched by his life.

Survivors include his children: Elizabeth (Dan) Strommen, Charles (Rebecca) Kramer, & James (Peggy) Kramer; his step-children: Barb Zills, & Bob Krueger; 20 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; his sister: Nila (Robert) Schley; sisters-in-law: Margaret Kramer, Joyce Johnson, Rachel (Duane) Fietzer, & MarJean Plate; his brothers-in-law: Jerry Uecker, & Ervin (Mary Ann) Plate; and a special friend: Barbara Bohn. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wives: Dolores & Elaine; his brother Gerald Kramer, his sister Joyce Uecker, his sisters-in-law: Hariett Tenpas, Alta Pagel, Ruby Gruett & Alice Stenklyft; his brothers-in-law: Henry Johnson, Garit Tenpas, Merlin Plate & Virgil Plate, a son-in-law: Arlan Zills; and a daughter-in-law Andrea Krueger.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (387 Cemetery Road) in Kiel with the Rev. Keith Free officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel City Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2016.
