VAN CLEAVE, William MorleyAge 84, of Nashville, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013. He was born in Chapel Hill, TN on January 25, 1929, to O.E. and Mary Beth Ezell Van Cleave. After graduating from Forrest High School in 1946, he attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in 1950. He was an active member of Pi Kappa Alpha. He married the former Eleanor Roehl on February 3, 1951 in Knoxville. As a newlywed, he served as a first lieutenant for two years in Korea in the United States Army during the Korean War. After a brief career managing the family farm in Chapel Hill, Mr. Van Cleave pursued a career in insurance by working for Travelers Life Insurance Company in Nashville. He joined the Joe T. Bandy agency in 1961 and became a partner in Bandy and Van Cleave & Williamson Agency, a general insurance agency, in 1965 with the late Charles E. Williamson until retirement in 1996. He was an active member of the Insurors of Tennessee, and served as President of Insurors of Nashville in 1987. He was a member of the Better Business Bureau, the Nashville City Club, and the So What Club. Mr. Van Cleave was a founding member of St. David's Episcopal Church, where he served on the Vestry as the Junior and Senior Warden and taught Sunday School. He attended the Episcopal Churchmen's annual conference at DuBose for over 40 years. He greatly enjoyed bird hunting, gardening, travel, and his weekly evening tennis group.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Eleanor Roehl Van Cleave; children, William Morley Van Cleave, Jr. (Ann) of New Orleans, LA; Robert Roehl Van Cleave (Lea) of Nashville, TN; Caroline Van Cleave Smith (David) of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Sarah Eleanor Fitzsimmons Smith, William Morley Van Cleave III, Samuel Boyd Smith II, James Winfield Van Cleave, Robert Van Cleave Smith; brother, James Frank Van Cleave (Marie) of Tullahoma, TN, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in passing by his sister Jane Van Cleave Kerr, and his grandson, Alexander Roehl Van Cleave.

Funeral service will be Friday, September 6, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. David's Episcopal Church, 6501 Pennywell Dr., Nashville, TN, with visitation at 10 a.m. in Sanders Hall. Pallbearers are his nephews and grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers are J. Buist Richardson, III, William R. Pettersen, David B. Graves, Jr., and Norman H. McNair. Burial service for family will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
