William and Dorothy lived along the Rappahannock River, on land that later became King George County, Virginia. On Oct. 16, 1669, William Strother bought 500 acres along the river and built a two-story brick house overlooking the river. He called his farm "Ferry Farm." That farm was later sold to Augustine Washington, the father of George Washington, and it became part of their family's property.
Robert Strother married Elizabeth Berry around 1718. She was the daughter of William Berry and Margaret Doughty. Robert and Elizabeth had four children: John, Robert, Enoch, and Elizabeth. This is proven in his will (attached to this memorial).
Robert and Elizabeth lived on land that he had inherited from his father. Robert died in the early fall of 1735, and his will was probated that November.
Robert's widow Elizabeth got remarried to William Wheeler, who helped raise her children.
