Evelyn Louise Dannenberg was born on May 27, 1924, in Hubbard, Iowa, the daughter of Emil Carl and Louise E. (Bunte) Dannenberg. She was an only child, but had many cousins to grow up with. She graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1941 and moved to Marshalltown in 1942. Her first job was at the Tallcorn Hotel in Marshalltown as a maid, then as a waitress at Kresge's, a large five-and-dime store on Main Street.

She married Gerald Lawson in 1946 at a Methodist Church in Williams, Iowa. She was blessed with 7 children:

Barbara, b. 11/26/1946
Darrell, b. 1/2/1948
Curtis, b. 8/24/1949
Dwight, b. 8/15/1950
Rodney, b. 10/13/1951
David, b. 12/20/1957
Brenda, b. 8/11/1960

Evelyn and Gerald were divorced in 1964. Evelyn did a wonderful job of raising her children.

Evelyn was employed as a waitress at Van's Café, Kresge's, and the Pancake House; and then at the Water Department before moving to Denver in 1972 with her two youngest children. There, she worked as a waitress and a flower arranger before retiring in 1989. She moved to Arizona with her son, Dwight, in 2001, and then back to Marshalltown in 2013.

Evelyn enjoyed bowling, arts and crafts, crocheting, traveling, scrapbooking, and line-dancing to country music. She would walk one mile every day and won 15 medals while walking the 10k in the Bolder Boulder, Colorado, for 20 years. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was very proud of her children's and grandchildren's successes in life.

Evelyn Lawson, 92, of Marshalltown, passed away from her earthly home on Monday, August 8, 2016, to her mansion in heaven on August 8, 2016, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.

She is survived by her children: Barbara (John) Shackelford of Tennessee, Darrell Lawson of Des Moines, Iowa; Curtis (Teresa) Lawson of Tennessee, Dwight Lawson of Marshalltown, Iowa; Rodney Lawson of Marshalltown, David (Cherie) Lawson of Colorado, and Brenda Lawson of Colorado. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Louise, all of her aunts and uncles, and a few cousins.
