Dorothy Heckbenberg

Dorothy Heckenberg, 80, of Danville, died at 10:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at Burlington Medical Center.

Born July 27, 1918, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of Parn and Allie Martin Hillyard. On Sept. 30, 1939, she married Karl M. Heckenberg.

Mrs. Heckenberg was a homemaker and farmed with her husband.

She was of the Christian faith. She graduated as valedictorian of Cotter High School and won the 1936 DAR award.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Linda Craven of Burlington; one son, Terry Heckenberg of Burlington; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hartzell Hillyard of Burlington and Leon Hillyard of Mediapolis; and six sisters, Beulah Wirt, Opal Schulz and Norma Massner, all of Mediapolis, Rachel Kelly of Wapello, and Gladys Schulz and Wanda Campbell, both of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant daughter, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Heckenberg will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Mel Miller officiating. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery in Danville.

A memorial has been established.
