Jean-Baptiste is the son of Rene Lanoue and Marguerite Richard. He was deported with his mother and brothers in 1755, and they were sent to Charleston where they were placed on the Stanyarne Plantation (currently called the Vanderhost's Plantation). Stanyarne Plantation encompassed all of Johns Island at the time.

His mother died the following year. It's unknown if he stayed on the plantation until after the war ended. He changed his religion from being Catholic to being Protestant.

He changed his name from Lanoue to Lanneau as did his brother Basile. It's believed that he never married or had children. He also died of small pox, during the 1781 epidemic.
