Amand is the son of Rene Lanoue and Marguerite Richard. He was sent into exile with his mother and siblings, to Charleston, South Carolina, where he was orphaned. He later returned to Windsor (previously known as Pisiguit), Nova Scotia and married Marie Melanson in 1762. They moved to Grosses Coques, in Digby County, where they remained for the rest of their lives. They are parents of at least the following:

1) Anastasie (1774-) md Frederic Beliveau
2) Anne (1776-) md Anselme Beliveau
