Donna E. Matheny (nee Riemenschneider), 78, entered life eternal on Oct. 26, 2012, at Hope Hospice in Ft. Myers, Florida, due to many health problems. She was surrounded by her beloved husband of 61 years, Carl, and their three children. She was born in Pontiac on Sept. 12, 1934 to Ernest and Belva (Cronk) Riemenschneider. Donna and Carl were high school sweethearts, married 61 years. She is survived by her husband, Carl; dear daughter, Diane (Charles) Creed of Gladwin; and sons, Donald (Linda) Matheny of Crossville, Tennessee, and Robert (Vida) Matheny of Sarasota, Florida; sisters, Bettye Hagyard of Ft. Myers, Florida, Alice (John) Batzloff of Waterford, and Carolyn Cartier of Waterford; grandchildren, Michael Garontakos (Traci) of Columbus, Ohio, Brian Garontakos of Novi, and Tracy Turpin (John) Mogelnicki of Brighton; several nieces and nephews; step-grandchildren; and great-granddaughter, Kate and Sophie. Donna began her banking career with the Community National Bank Pontiac, in approximately 1959 as a clerk. She continued her banking career for 30 years, working for National City Bank, and First of America bank where she was promoted to the first woman Vice President. She retired in l989 due to health problems. Donna enjoyed sewing, reading and continued education in her younger years. Upon Carl’s retirement from the Oakland Co. Sheriff’s Dept, in 1993, Donna and Carl spent winters in Florida and summers in Michigan. They have enjoyed camping, along with travel by plane and boat to many wonderful destinations. She and Carl were involved with many church activities in both states and also committed to their work with the Salvation Army in Florida as directors of the Christmas Food and Gift Projects. Donna was a long time member of the Orchard Lake Presbyterian Church in Orchard Lake, Michigan. She was a member of Chapel by The Sea Presbyterian Church in Ft. Myers, Florida and the Beaverton Presbyterian Church in Beaverton, as of late. As per Donna’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held on Nov. 9, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel By The Sea Presbyterian Church in Ft. Myers Beach, Fla. and A Memorial Service will be planned in Michigan in the spring of 2013. She will be remembered as a loving wife, a good mother, a hard worker, an organizer with attention to detail as well as a survivor of cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and other health problems. Her strength, beauty and determination will be her legacy to her family. Memorials may be made in her name to Chapel By The Sea Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 2997, Ft. Myers Beach, FL 33932.
