Matheny, Carl Gilbert; age 82; April 13, 2015; in Ft. Myers, Florida. Carl was born in Pontiac, Michigan to William Burley and Edna Doll Matheny, November 4, 1932. Donna, his wife of 61 years proceeded him in death, October, 2012. Surviving are loving daughter, Diane Creed (Charles); devoted sons, Don Matheny (Linda), Bob Matheny; dearest grandsons, Michael Garontakos (Traci), Brian Garontakos; grand daughter, Tracy Mogelnicki (John); great grandchildren, Jackson Carl Garontakos, Kate and Sophie Mogelnicki, step-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews who loved “Uncle Carl”; sister-in-laws, Alice Batzloff (John) and Carolyn Cartier. Carl began his law enforcement career with the Oakland Sheriff Dept. in 1967 and worked his way through the ranks to retirement status of Major in 1988. Long after his retirement, he talked about his time there and fond memories of special people. He and Donna loved the north woods of Michigan during the summers and spent winters in Ft. Myers, Florida. His love of music and his faith served him well at Orchard Lake Community Church, Orchard Lake and Chapel By the Sea in Ft. Myers. His legacy to his family will be his loving devotion, humor, honesty, patience, work ethic and never ending kindness to all. He had a strong faith, a love for family and music. His family is grateful for his time on earth. A Memorial Service will take place at the Orchard Lake Community Church in Orchard lake, Michigan on June 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. in memory of he and Donna. Donations to honor his love of music can be made to either church music program.
