Kathryn Karaglanis Johnson (Kay), beloved wife, mother, grandmother aunt and friend, died Sunday, October 20, 1996 after suffering a stroke on Thursday October 17, 1996.

She was born to Peter and Christina Karaglanis April 12, 1919 in Murray. She grew up in Midvale and graduated from Jordan High School. As a young woman, Kathryn was selected to be the Midvale Harvest Days' Queen. She married Orlano J. Johnson (Red) on October 6, 1941. Together, they operated Kay and Red's Cafe near Liberty Park in Salt Lake City for 31 years. She was a wonderful mother to their three children and a good friend to many, many people.

Kathryn was active in the community-serving as Worthy Matron of Radiant Chapter #12 OES, Queen of Lybia Temple No. 32 Daughters of the Nile, and president of the Salt Lake Ladies' Literary Club. She was also the Grand Marshall for the national Daughters of the Nile organization.

She is survived by her husband, Orlano J.; son, Orlano K. (wife, Karen); daughter, Jo Elaine J. Hearn (husband, Anthony); five grandchildren, Chip, Kris, and Bruce Johnson; Alison and David Hearn; sister, Alice K. Johnson; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her son, Milan.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 1996 at Zion Lutheran Church, 1070 Foothill Blvd. Friends may greet the family from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South. Burial, Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Friends wishing may make contributions to Intermountian Unit, Shriners Hospital in her name. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
