LtGen US Marine Corps

He received degrees from Illinois State University and the University of Illinois, and graduated from the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, class of 1950. His 32-year career with the Marine Corps included service in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Additional studies included a Master's degree in international relations at George Washington University, and he studied Russian at the Naval Language School in Washington and in a foreign area study program. Among his military awards and decorations were the Silver Star; Bronze Star Medal; Distinguished Service Medal; and Legion of Merit with Combat "V" for Valor. He retired from military active duty in 1982.

He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Charles Bronars Sr. He was survived by his mother, Mary C Krawczyk Bronars; his wife, Dorothea Rosa Bates Bronars; his daughter; his son; his brother, Joseph Charles Bronars Jr (1925-2011); his sister; and six grandchildren.

Interment on September 13, 1996.
