Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 30, 2006 at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Harlow officiating. Interment will be in the Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 29 at the funeral home.
Richard was born June 9, 1933 the son of Norman and LaVola (Owen) Mabe in Fort Dodge. On June 2, 1951 he was united in marriage to Nancy Raymond. To this union three children were born. He owned and operated Mabes DX for numerous years and was an accomplished mechanic. Richard's favorite pastime was attending sprint car races. He and his racing buddy Kodi attended the Knoxville Nationals every year. When his children were younger he would take them camping every single weekend.
Richard enjoyed coffee time with the boys. He could be found at numerous locations in the area drinking coffee and having conversations with his friends. He made it a point to have coffee with his son, Rick, every Sunday.
Those thankful for having shared in Richard's life include his wife, Nancy Mabe, children; Rick Mabe, Randy Mabe, and Debbie Mabe, sisters; Norma Jean Eslick, and Kay Brown, brother; Tom Mabe, step-mother Darlene Mabe. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, LaVola and Norman Mabe.
