Mary Vanita Bowe Partin

Mrs. Mary Vanita Bowe Partin, 79, of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2000 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Services will be Saturday, February 19, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Rev. Stan Allcorn and Rev. H.B. Terry officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery directed by North's Funeral Homes. 242 Orange. Mrs. Partin was born February 27, 1920 in Amarillo, Texas to Harold G. and Lola Ella Bowe. She was raised in Happy, Texas and was a graduate of Happy High School. In 1940, she entered nursing school at Hendrick Medical School and graduated in 1943. She married the late Revered James W. Partin Sr. in 1943. He died in 1986. She was employed at various intervals with Hendrick Medical Center until 1967, when she went to work for the Abilene-Taylor County Health Department until retiring in 1987. During this time, she also served as Director of Nurses from 1977 until retirement. She was active in the Partin Family Egg Farm south of Abilene in Cedar Gap from the mid 1950's to the early 1970's. Mrs. Partin was involved with many civic organizations including serving on the Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society; Abilene Day Care Nursery; President of Hendrick Memorial Nursing Alumni; volunteer with the Red Cross and held various positions of service in Baptist Churches, including her service as a skilled pianist. She was also a member of the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and a member of the Abilene Genealogical Society Chapter. Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, George Truett Partin of Abilene, Robert Bowe Partin, Sr. and Sheila Howell Partin of Houston; one step son, Charles C. Partin of Denton, Texas; three brothers, Al Bowe of Nixon, Forrest Bowe of California, Richard Bowe of Houston; one sister, Ann Prichard of Utah; six grandchildren, Jeff, Paige, Bowe and Samuel Partin all of Houston, Carrie Roper of Houston and Will Partin of California. She was preceded in death by a step son, Jimmy W. Partin, Jr.; four brothers, and one sister, Doris, Vernie, Wayne, Eugene and Helen Bowe. Pallbearers will be, Al Bowe, Forrest Bowe, Richard Bowe, Jeff Partin, Will Partin, Bowe Partin and Samuel Partin. Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 from 6:00-7:30 at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange. Memorials can be made in Mrs. Partin's memory to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030.
