Obituary - Mrs. J. F. Kirby.
After an illness of several years' duration, during the last four months of which she was bedfast, Mrs. J. F. Kirby passed peacefully away at her home in east Mount Ayr Friday morning at nine o'clock. She is survived by her husband and five children; two brothers, William Case of Shenandoah, Iowa, Lincoln Case of Newkirk, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Pittman of Mount Ayr, who are the only survivors of the twelve children of the Case family, whose parents came to Ringgold county in 1854 and settled in Lotts Creek township.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the home, being conducted by Rev. T. S. Rhoades, and interment was in the family lot in Knowlton cemetery.
The following obituary was read at the funeral service:
Martha L. Case was born at Ringgold City, Iowa, June 2, 1860, where she lived until she was united in marriage with J. F. Kirby July 18, 1882. Her entire life was spent in Ringgold county with the exception of eighteen months which were spent in Kansas. To Mr. and Mrs. Kirby were born ten children, five of whom preceded the mother in death. Those living are Leota Lamb, Mount Ayr, Iowa; Zelma Bean, Los Angeles, Calif.; Flora Crank, Des Moines, Iowa; Alta Green, Goodland, Kan., and Glen Kirby, of Mount Ayr, Iowa.
When a child she united with the Evangelical church at Ringgold City, where she remained a member until moving to Mount Ayr, when she united with the Methodist church and remained faithful until the end.
For several years her health would not permit her to attend the house of worship, but her faith was strong until the sunset of life, which came Friday morning about nine o'clock, and while there was sunset here there was a great sunrise in the Great Beyond. She was 68 years, one month and 25 days old.
