Sonny joined the U.S. Army in February, 1943 and served in the 494th Quartermaster Company in New Caledonia, South Pacific, from September, 1943, until November, 1945. Following his military service, he returned to the dry cleaning business and managed Master Valet Cleaners next to the Driscoll Hotel in the early 1950s. He and Louise opened Twin Oaks Cleaners in 1954, where they were the joint owners and operators until their retirement in 1980. Post retirement, Sonny worked part time for Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home for many years.
Sonny was the founding charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church and taught the Adult Sunday School Class there for over 40 years. He was a Past Master and 50 year member of Hill City Masonic Lodge; a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite; a long time member of the York Rite, Shrine and Red Cross of Constantine and most recently, a 33rd degree Mason. He also served thousands of volunteer hours at Brackenridge Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; his parents; brothers, Elgene Jones and Lawrence Jones; and sister, Ruby Sanders.
He is survived by son, Sam Jones and wife, Linda; daughter, Karen Matthews; grandson, Brent Jones and wife Vickie; grandson, Ryan Cotton; brother, Ray Jones; sister-in-law, Carrington Jones; sister-in-law, Helen Condron; five nieces; and several great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Texas Oncology and the staff of Buckner Villa for their outstanding care of Sonny during the past eight months.

Visitation will be held at 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 29, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1605 E. 38th ½, Austin, Texas, with Reverend George Holcombe officiating. Burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park under the Auspices of Hill City Lodge # 456 AF & AM.
