Adrian was born to the late John Quincy Pugh, Sr. and Annie Mary Smith Pugh, June 28, 1940, in Asheboro, North Carolina. He graduated from Franklinville High School in 1958 and began his work career at Klopman Mills in Central Falls where he later became Shipping Supervisor and Weaving Room Supervisor. He married Toni Cox in 1962 and later that year he was called into the US Army at Fort Jackson, SC. Following basic training he worked as an Admissions Clerk in the Army Hospital at Fort Gordon, Georgia.
Adrian was called into the ministry in 1969 and moved to Greenville, SC where he attended the Institute of Christian Service at Bob Jones University. He served as the Institute’s Class President in 1973 and as Chaplain in 1974. Upon graduation in 1974, he was presented the Institute of Christian Service Merit Award for outstanding leadership, earnest spiritual zeal, cooperative spirit and Christian testimony.
In 1974, Adrian was called as Assistant Pastor to Fayetteville Street Baptist Church in Asheboro. The Bus Director, Puppet Ministry Director, Children’s Church Director, and Youth Pastor were under his leadership while he was Assistant Pastor. During the summer, he traveled with the Puppet Ministry to NC, Virginia, and Pennsylvania sharing the gospel with young people. Under his leadership the church held one of the largest youth crusades in Asheboro, Neighborhood Bible Time, where 1500 kids were enrolled for the crusade.
First Christian Church, Ramseur called Adrian as Pastor in 1980. During this time at First Christian, a new church was built as well as a new family life center. A bus ministry was started, AWANA program for youth, and children’s churches. The church grew from 85 in attendance to approximately 300.
In 1990, Fayetteville Street Baptist Church called Adrian as their Pastor. He also served as President of Fayetteville Street Christian School. He served in this capacity until 2006, when declining health forced him to resign. He had many wonderful years at Fayetteville Street and the Lord accomplished much.
Wednesday night Pastor is the title given to Adrian as he served Mountain of Faith Christian Church. He held a Bible Study and Prayer Meeting for their congregation.
Adrian was asked by Friendship Baptist Church, Randleman to serve as interim pastor in February, 2012 and he served in this capacity until December of that year. In January, 2013, the church called him to be their Pastor where he served until August, 2015 and resigned at that time due to declining health.
Adrian is survived by his wife of 54 years, Toni Cox Pugh. Other survivors include: Brothers: David R. Pugh (Louise), Lexington, NC, Rev. Randall Pugh (Deborah), Weaverville, NC, Anthony Pugh, Asheboro, NC and Rev. Dwane Pugh (Donna), Orange, Va., and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Friendship Baptist Church, 2235 Spero Road, Randleman and other times at the home.
