Dr. Robert Thomas Alciatore, 69, former Director of Higher Education at Oklahoma State University, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Brighton Ski Resort, Utah.

Robert Alciatore was born in New Orleans to Edward Paul and Sophie (Haydel) Alciatore. After graduating high school he joined the Jesuit Order of New Orleans until 1964. He received a B.A. in English, 1954, and a Ph.L. in Philosophy, 1955, from Spring Hill College, Mobile, Ala.; S.T.L. in Theology, 1962, St. Louis University and in French, 1960, Laval University, Quebec; and Ph.D. in Higher Education, 1965, University of Minnesota.

Dr. Alciatore served as Director of Higher Education at OSU, 1968-1973; Professor and Director, Division of Education, University of Texas, San Antonio, 1973-1976; Professor and Dean, College of Education, Florida Atlantic University; and Professor and Dean, College of Education, University of Southwestern Louisiana, 1981-2000.

His professional affiliations include membership in Kappa Delta Pi; member of the Board of Directors, Southwest Regional Council of American Association of Professors of Higher Education; and member of the Governing Board, Association of Professors of Higher Education.

Dr. Alciatore was selected Teacher of the Year, College of Education, at OSU and was sited in Who's Who of the South and Southwest. He published numerous books and educational journals.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Ann Mignon Alciatore; and one brother, Edward Paul, Jr.
