Death of Everett D. Pratt
As the result of injuries sustained when he was kicked by a horse at his home east of Redding the evening of Sunday, July 23, Everett D. Pratt died at the University hospital in Iowa City Sunday, July 30. He was taken to the hospital within a few hours after being injured and a surgical operation was performed, but the condition was found to be such that no hope was held for recovery. He lingered until Sunday morning until five o'clock when life passed out.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at Hickory Grove church, conducted by Roy E. Scott, and burial was in the nearby cemetery. The following obituary was read at the services.
Everett Dwight Pratt, only son of Willie and Leta Pratt, was born in Ringgold county, Iowa April 4, 1905, and passed away July 30, 1933, aged 28 years, three months and 26 days.
On March 14, 1928, he was united in marriage to Miss Ruby Trullinger and to this union two children were born, Billie Elmer, aged four, and Delores Lavaun, 20 months.
On Sunday evening, July 23, he was kicked by a horse, which injured him internally. He was rushed to the hospital in Iowa City, where all that was possible for medical science and loving hands to do was done, but all to no avail.
With the exception of a few months spent in Nebraska and North Dakota his entire life has been spent among us.
He gave his heart to God at about the age of 14 at a camp meeting in Davis City, Iowa, and was ready to go when the end came. He desired very much to go to the camp meeting now in progress in Chariton. He repeatedly stated that he was ready to go and before going said that he saw a vision of a large grave vineyard of white grapes dripping with honey. He said it would not be long until he walked the streets on high.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and two children, his father and mother, one sister Violet and an aged grandmother besides many other relatives and friends.
In his life he won the love and admiration of everyone and his friends were numbered by his acquaintance and he will be sadly missed by all, but their loss is his gain of eternal life.
