Ms. Beard was born on December 9, 1950 in Rockingham County and was the daughter of Dan J. Beard, Harrisonburg and the late Jean Alice Miller Kestner. She graduated from Broadway High School and worked for the Department Herd Improvement Association as a milk inspector for 33 years. She loved flower gardening, shopping and antiquing.
In addition to her father, she is survived by a son, Whitney Kyger, California; a daughter, Jacie Elizabeth Kyger, Harrisonburg; sister, Sue O’Byrne and husband Frank; brother, Johnny Beard; brother-in-law, Jay Moyers, all of Harrisonburg; a granddaughter, Paige Elizabeth Cleaver; and niece and nephews, Sarah Moyers, Josh Moyers, and Zach Beard.
Ms. Beard, in addition to her mother, was preceded in death by a son, Jarrett Paul Kyger in 2007; brother, Steve Beard and a sister, Barbara Moyers and stepmother Ann Beard.
Pastor Brad Kolb will conduct a graveside service, Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindale Mennonite Church Cemetery.
The casket will remain closed and there will be no formal viewing or visitation.
McMullen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
