Alvin Luther Lawter, 77, of Spartanburg, died on Thursday, November 16, 2006, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.

Born on March 24, 1929, in Chesnee, SC, he was the son of the late David J. and Bessie (Melton) Lawter.

He was retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years of service.

Survivors include a sister, Carolyn Bishop, of Columbia; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Garland Lawter and Benny Lawter; and five sisters, Lucille Berry, Corrie Wilson, Cancie Martin, Ila Lawter, and Ethel Morris.

Graveside services with military rites were held Saturday, November 18, 2006, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
