Evelyn Marie Heinrich Wade, age 95, passed away peacefully following a stroke on July 24, 2016 at her residence in Austin, Texas surrounded by her family.
Evelyn was born on September 5, 1920 to Annie Marie Blaschke and Ludwig Heinrich and raised in the close-knit German community of High Hill, Texas, near Schulenburg.
Evelyn met her future husband, George E. Wade Jr. at a dance hall in LaGrange, Texas near where he was stationed following World War II. Evelyn knew he was the love of her life when he proposed by sending her a one-way bus ticket to his farm in Hagerman, New Mexico. They married on May 24, 1946 in Roswell, New Mexico and enjoyed 56 years together until his death in 2002. Evelyn loved being a homemaker. Evelyn and George raised their three daughters in Carlsbad, New Mexico, then lived in El Paso and Lubbock before settling in Albuquerque in 1982. There, Evelyn doted on her grandchildren and her dog, Elvis, cooked fabulous meals and became a consummate duplicate bridge player and beloved member of the Duke City Bridge Club for over 20 years. Evelyn moved to Austin, Texas in 2010 and lived an active life enjoying her extended family and beloved cat, Butterscotch. Her family is grateful for the loving and attentive care she received as a resident at Brookdale NW Hills assisted living the past 3½ years.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Susanna Busico of Austin, Texas, Brenda Moore of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Karen Dealy and her husband, David, of Dallas, Texas. Evelyn has seven grandchildren, Kristi Busico Metzger, Jenny Busico Fleming, Katherine Childress, Henry Kirk Childress (deceased), Robin Moore, Mary Margaret Moore and Russell Moore and nine great-grandchildren. Everyone of them were special and "so beautiful" to her.
A celebration of her life is planned for September 4, 2016 in Albuquerque. Her ashes will be interred in Santa Fé National Cemetery alongside her husband, George.
