The death of Fred C. Westphal occurred at the family residence in Francesville, Thursday night, just thirty hours after he had been stricken with a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Westphal was apparently in the best of health. He had been down town in the afternoon and had returned home about five o'clock. It was while he was conversing with members of the family that he was seen to suddenly fall limp in his chair. The stroke was fatal, he lapsed into unconsciousness and the end came quickly. Mr. Westphal was one of the well-known citizens of the county, a successful farmer, who had retired several years ago when he became a resident of Francesville. He was born in Salem township nearly sixty years ago. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Westphal. In 1887 he was married to Anna Kopka, to whom four children were born--Albert, Gilbert, Lola and Orpha. Besides the members of his family he leaves one brother, Christ C. Westphal; three sisters, Mrs. John Kopka, Mrs. Fred Kopka and Mrs. C. M. Kruger, and three grandchildren. Short funeral services were conducted at the residence Sunday afternoon, and later services were held at St. Jacob's Church in Beaver township, Revs. G. A. Firgau and George Deckinger officiating. Burial was made in the cemetery east of Francesville.
