Leona Dickmann Ostendorf, 106, died at 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at St. John's Hospice.
Leona was born in Peters Station, IL on November 18, 1909, the daughter of John and Anna (Mateyka) Dickmann. She married George Ostendorf on November 12, 1936 at St. Mary's Church in Edwardsville, IL. George and Leona were married for 60 years. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1996.
Leona attended Brown's Business College in St. Louis. She worked as a clerk for the Nickel Plate Railroad. She loved flowers and dancing, especially the jitterbug. She attended St. Agnes Catholic Church in Springfield and is a former member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John, Hilbert, Leonard, and Bennett; her sisters, Estelle, Helen, Margie, and Ann; granddaughter, Kerry Ann Selkirk; and great-grandson, Patrick Gomez.
Leona is survived by her daughters, Judy Selkirk of Springfield, IL; Nancy Overby of Lincoln, IL; grandchildren, Katherine Selkirk, Michael Overby, and Michelle Gomez; great-grandchildren, Mark Overby, Nicholas Overby, and Anthony Gomez; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2016 at St. Agnes Catholic Parish with Rev. Robert Jallas, celebrant. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 5, 2016, at Calvary Cemetery in Edwardsville.
