Funeral services for J.F. Dickman, 64, railroad agent at Peters Station, who died Saturday at 11:35 a.m. at his home, of complications will be conducted at the residence Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock followed by services at the St. Cecelia's Church in Glen Carbon. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Rev. C.A. Meagher will officiate.
Mr. Dickman was born one mile west of Peters Station in 1870 and lived his entire life in that vicinity. His father died when he was two years of age and he grew up in the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Harmann of Edwardsville Township. Mr. Dickman attended the St. Boniface Parochial School. After leaving school he worked on the farm and later studied telegraphy and the work of a railroad agent. For many years he was agent for the Nickle Plate Road at Glen Carbon and Peters Station.
His marriage to Miss Anna Mateyka of Glen Carbon occurred May 24, 1898. She survives with eight children, John, Estelle, Leona, Ann and Bennett Dickman and Mrs. O.A. Thurston of Mcade, Kan., and Hilbert and Leonard Dickman of Sunset Gardens. One child preceded him in death, as did a sister, Mrs. Joseph Schlueter. He also leaves a brother, William Dickman.
Mr. Dickman had been a school director of District 82, Peters Station, for 21 years and was a member of the Board of the Collinsville Township High School when it was erected. He was a precinct committeeman at Peters Station and manager of the Valier and Spies Milling Company elevator there. Mr. Dickman was a member of the St. Cecelia's Catholic Church in Glen Carbon and of the Knights of St. Boniface and Catholic Knights of Illinois. He was also affiliated with the Modern Woodman Lodge in Glen Carbon.
