Sarah Ann Marston was born about 1838 in Monmouthshire, Wales and immigrated to the United States with her parents. They sailed from Newport, Monmouthshire and arrived in New Orleans on 5 Nov 1850 aboard the ship Sachem. From New Orleans they sailed up the Mississippi River to the St. Louis, Missouri area where they settled for a few years on both the Missouri and Illinois sides of the Mississippi. The family split into at least three different migrations from the St. Louis area to California. Sarah Ann was among the first migration of the Marston family which occurred in the 1850s. She settled in Yolo County and married David Talley about 1855. They were living in neighboring Napa County in 1860 at which time they had two children, David Jr., and Mary Jane. David Jr. died young, before 1870 at which time the Talley family had moved to Julian in San Diego County. Here they established a fruit ranch which they maintained until David's death in 1897. When David died, Sarah sold the ranch and moved to Pomona in Los Angeles County to live with her daughter, Mary Jane French, who was also widowed, her husband Charles French having died in Pomona in 1895. Sadly, Sarah Ann lived in Pomona less than a year before her death in 1898 from heart disease.
