Death Calls Weinberger. Former Great Falls Businessman Stricken AT Los Angeles
Joseph Weinberger, for 21 years proprietor of Weinberger's clothing and shoe store on 14 Second street south, died some time Thursday night in Los Angeles, according to telegrams received in this city yesterday. The news of Mr. Weinberger's death was not wholly unexpected, though his friends had hoped that his trip to the coast, on which he started from this city on May 31, would bring the hoped for benefit and that he might recover some of the ground he had lost in recent months. Mr. Weinberger was 52 years of age.
Joseph Weinberger came to America when he was 12 or 14 years of age and had accumulated a modest fortune in the intervening years. He came to Great Falls a little less than 22 years ago and shortly after the arrival he opened a clothing and shoe store, which he recently sold to M. Kornfield. He built up a lucrative business, but his health failed and he was forced to retire some weeks ago by sale of his store.
Mr. Weinberger is survived by his wife and two stepdaughters, Mrs. Henry Weinberger and Miss Sadie Davis. The brothers are Henry Weinberger of New York and Isador Weinberger of Los Angeles.
Mr. Weinberger was a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Eagles, both memberships being in local lodges. He had enjoyed a large acquaintance and built up a good business during his 21 years here.
On May 31, accompanied by Mrs. Weinberger, he left the city of Great Falls for Los Angeles, and they arrived there on Friday, Mr. Weinberger having experienced two bad spells on the way, but at the time of arrival he was in fair condition and they wired back that they had an engagement with a specialist for Saturday morning. That was last word from them until the telegram yesterday that announced his death.
