Lela Mae Downing, 78, of Batavia, Iowa passed away April 25, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa. She was born December 19, 1937 in Davis County, Iowa to Lewis and Lottie Alice Doll Albright. She married Charlie Dean Downing on October 29, 1955 in Bloomfield. Charlie passed away February 24, 2011. Lela Mae was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, gardening, camping, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Pat) Carlson of Georgia, Rosa Harter of Batavia; three sons, Kevin Downing of Batavia, James (Lisa) Downing of Fairfield, William Downing of Indianapolis, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jesse Albright of Washington, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard Waynne Mallinger; daughter, Linda Sue Downing; two grandchildren, Shanne and Jerrime Mallinger; three brothers, Jerry, Earl, and Murl Albright; sister, Mary Lou Stewart; and grandmother, Rosa Tulk.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Tim Frasher officiating. Scattering of the cremated remains will take place at a later date. A memorial has been established to the family.
