Clarence J. Vos, son of John and Bertha (Pothoven) Vos was born in 1920. He went to his eternal home on July 28th, 2016.

Left to mourn his passing are the sweetheart of his life for 72 years, Jeanne (Jeannette Bokhoven), his 3 children, and his four grandchildren.

His five siblings: Gertrude, Martha, Jeanette, Helen, and Otto preceded him in death, along with his first grandchild, Nick Bremmer.

His training for the ministry was interrupted by 42 months of military service. After the war, his studies continued at Calvin College and Seminary. He received his Masters of Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary. He served the Christian Reformed Churches in Monroe, Washington and Patterson, New Jersey. He was a professor of theology at Calvin College until his retirement in 1985.

During that time, he earned his Theology Doctorate from the Free University at Amsterdam, The Netherlands. His thesis, Woman in Old Testament Worship, published in 1968 when women's place in the church was a major issue in the Agenda for Synod. Synod quoted it rather frequently. Clarence wrote several articles for The Banner. One, which was published in 1958, indicated he felt that children of believers should be welcomed to the Lord's Table. This article was not universally received, but the Synod of the Christian Reformed Church took that very position some fifty years later.

After retirement he and his wife Jeanne served several interim pastorates from Washington to New Jersey, and from Alaska to Florida. He served as many as 18 churches in all. Clarence and Jeanne worked with enthusiasm in serving the Lord they loved.

Relatives and friends may greet the family on Tuesday August 2, 2016 at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49546. The funeral service will be on Wednesday August 3 at Zaagman Memorial Chapel. An interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to World Renew (1700 28th St. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49508) or Calvin College (3201 Burton St. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49546).
