He worked in and managed several service stations in Manhattan and Bozeman prior to moving to Missoula where he was a manager for several music stores. One of his favorite responsibilities was to demonstrate various instruments at area schools.
Although he never finished his degree at Montana State, he would have been an excellent music teacher. Art played both trombone and piano in various dance bands throughout the state. He excelled on the piano despite taking private instruction for only a couple of years during grammar school. It was said of him that, “he could play for 24 hours straight without repetition in any key!" He later took up the Hammond organ as his fingers became affected by arthritis.
Art was married to Frankie Verwolf and together they had Sheila and Neal, and adopted Debbie, Mark and Greg. Frankie passed away in 1992 and Art later married Opal. She passed away in 2005. He was also preceded in death by his son, Greg, in August 2004; his sister, Carol Jean; and his brother, Al. Survivors in addition to his children include brothers Harold, Will, Don, Kenny and Verne; and one sister, Lorene.
There will be no formal funeral with private distribution of ashes pending.
