OBITUARY
JAMES EDWARD BEER
James Edward Beer, son of Joseph and Katherine Beer, was born Oct. 18, 1870, near Walnut city, Ia. and departed this life at the St. Joseph Hospital, Aug. 8, 1947, at the age of 76 years. He grew to manhood on the farm where he was born and was united in marriage to Irene (Irenia) Haines, on Feb. 22, 1893. Four years later she was called Home, and on Jan. 14, 1900, Mr. Beer was again married to Miss Cora Long. To this union three children were born, Lloyd, of Devon, Mont., and Mrs. Hazel Felkner and Joseph of Centerville Rte. 3. There are also six grandchildren and one great grandson. All were present during their father's last illness except Lloyd, the eldest son, who was unable to come at this time, but contemplates a visit later on.

Mr. Beer accepted Christ, and was baptized in 1901, at the Walnut City Church, seldom missing a service as long as he was able to attend.

In 1907, he moved with his family to a farm east of Jerome, Ia. where he lived the past 40 years.

Although suffering intensely with Arthritis, and unable to do active work, he found much of interest in his farm, especially the raising of good livestock.

He was a kind and loving husband and father, taking great pride in his children, of whom he loved to talk, often saying "he just lived for his grandchildren."

Besides his children, Mr. Beer is survived by his wife, Cora, and an elder brother, Sol Beer, of Cincinnati, Ia. who is seriously ill at this time.

Preceding him in death were his father and mother, two brothers and two sisters.

With the Rev. Harold B. Fay of the Methodist Church at Allerton, Iowa in charge, funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 11 at 2:30 in the Johnson Funeral Home at Centerville. Comfort through music was brought by the Rev. M. R. Gonzalez of the Mystic-Jerome Methodist Charge who sang: "Does Jesus Care?", "Death Is Only a Dream," and "We'll Never Say Good-bye in Heaven." Mrs. Tom Olds was the organist. Mr. Beer was buried in Jerome Cemetery.
