She was born on October 16, 1944 in Ottumwa, IA the daughter of Paul William and Velma Lorene (Springer) Cameron. She was employed as a QMRP at Krieder Services in Dixon for 17 years retiring in January 1993. Velva married John Charles "Gus" Kurfiss on March 16, 1986 in Kissimmee, FL. She was a member of the First Open Bible Church in Rock Falls.
Surviving is her husband John "Gus" Kurfiss; her daughter Karen Jo Lyles of Ashton; her son, James Douglas (Celeste) Lyles Jr of Ashton; her sisters: Rilla Lenox, Bonnie (Bill) Bauser and Hope (Douglas) Carolus all of Sterling and Sally (Jimmy) Click of Rochelle, IL; her brothers: Richard (Linda) Cameron of Grand Prairie, TX, Paul Thomas (Kelly) Cameron of Tempe, AZ, Russell (Darlene) Cameron of Belvidere, IL and Robert (Angie) Cameron of Davenport, IA; a sister-in-law, Debbie Cameron of Rockford; two grandchildren: James Douglas (Whitney) Lyles III and Wade Robert Lyles; two great grandchildren: Allison Lyles and James Douglas Lyles IV; and several aunts, several nieces, nephews.
