SHREVEPORT, LA - Melodie Stone Hunter, 59, lost her battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at the Acosta-Rua Hospice Center for Caring in Jacksonville, FL on July 5, 2016. A memorial service celebrating the life of Melodie Stone Hunter will be held Saturday, July 23, 2016, 2:00pm at Hill Crest Memorial, Haughton, LA. The family will receive visitors from 12:00pm until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Born December 22, 1956 in Pine Bluff, AR, Melodie grew up in Wabbaseka and Altheimer, AR before becoming a long-term resident of the Shreveport area. She was an avid wildflower enthusiast, who enjoyed spending time outdoors, and also loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. After being diagnosed with lung cancer, Mrs. Hunter relocated to Florida to be near family.

Melodie was preceded in death by a son, Barron Hunter; husband, Robert "Bob" Hunter; father, Paul Mallen Stone; and both sets of paternal and maternal grandparents.

She is survived by her mother, Chris Bogy Smith of Whitehall, AR; stepmother, Shirley Stone of New Orleans, LA; daughters, Heather Ford and husband Jason of Orange Park, FL; Tiffanie Startek and husband Richard of Ontario, Canada; and Jamie Hunter of Jacksonville, FL; brothers, Michael "Mike" Stone and wife Willadean "Winkle" and Christopher "Chris" Stone, all of Altheimer, AR; and Kevin Stone and husband, Mark of New Orleans, LA; grandchildren, Colton "Cole" Startek, Peyton Ford, Chase Startek, Hunter Ford, and Barron Pope; many loving nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.
