Joseph Schmitt, 79, a former resident of Route 3, Sheboygan Falls, died Friday at St. Nicholas Hospital after a month's illness. Born Sept. 12, 1874, in Town Wilson, a son of John Phillip and Anna Marie Schmitt, he attended district schools and was engaged in farming almost his entire life. Mr. Schmitt resided on a farm in the Town of Lima for 52 years, retiring in 1945. For the past two years he lived at the Park Lawn Home for the Aged. His marriage to Miss Rosina Schecker was solemnized at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Dacada, on June 27, 1899, by the late Rev. Father A. Leitner. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1949. Survivors are five sons, Norbert and Eugene, of Town Lima, Leo and George, of Sheboygan, and Alfred, Milwaukee; six daughters, Mrs. Frank (Sophia) Walsh, , Mrs. Henry (Clara) Nytes and Mrs. Hugo (Florence) Lorenz, of Town Lima, Mrs. Joseph (Irene) Bahms, Northfield, Wis.; Mrs. Clarence (Loretta) Klumb, Random Lake, and Miss Alice Schmitt, Plymouth; 44 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. His wife died in 1951. His parents, four sisters and five brothers also preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at Dean Funeral Home, Sheboygan Falls, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. George's Church at Six Corners. Rev. Andrew S. Hauer, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
