Linwood's greatest joy was found in serving God, his family, and his church. He was known for his gentle spirit and for the loving nature he exhibited to those around him. He was a father of two, but a dad to many.

He volunteered and served in the U.S.Navy, during WWII. On November 30, 1948, he was united in marriage to Delia "Faye" Gray in Elizabeth City, NC.

Linwood and Faye moved to Staten Island, NY where he graduated from Hemphill Diesel Engineering School in 1950. After completing his education, he was hired by Moran Towing and Transportation Corporation as a Marine Engineer.

Linwood and his family moved from New York to Dover, DE in 1968. He was a founding member and corporate officer of Liberty Church of Dover at its conception in 1978, where he continued serving as elder until his passing.
