Robert Joshua/Josiah? Critchfield/Caleb Grant was born in Campbell County on 25 March 1855 and died at the age of 85 of “Chronic Nephritis” on 26 December 1940 in LaFollette, Tennessee. He was a farmer and widower. Informant, R.M. Grant did not know the names of Joshua’s parents. He was buried at Baker’s Forge Cemetery in LaFollette (Death Certificate #29261)

There is conflicting information as to his name, his death certificate says “Crisfield,” but was known as Uncle Bob. Uncle Ethan referred to him as Robert (Uncle Bob) Joshua Critchfield Grant.

He married Nancy C. Haggard on 21 December 1876 in Campbell County. She was the daughter of William Adrian Haggard and Lucinda Cornutt. Joshua and Nancy Grant had seven children:
1. Fletcher m: Mary Sharp, d/o Cal Sharp.
2. John m: Evie Rector.
3. George m: Cordie Meredith, d/o Stockley Meredith.
4. Marion (changed name to Rudolf) m: a Mettler.
5. Odie m: Bob Ray.
6. Janie m: Will Irwin.
7. Emmy Ann m: a Fox.

The 1880 Craigs, Campbell County Tennessee census, page 369A lists J.C. Grant 25, Nancy K. 18, Mandy J. 2, Lucinda Haggard 42 (mother-in-law) Mandy J. Haggard 13, and George M. Haggard 10.

The 1900 Campbell County census, district 1, page 13B show Joshua C. Grant 45, Nancy C. 38, Lewis F. 19, Mary O. 17, John M. 14, George 11, Rufus M. 8, Emma A. 5, and Lucinda Haggard 62.

The 1910 Campbell County census, district 2, page 3 shows Joshua C. Grant 55, George W. 21, Marion 18, Emma 15, Mona Irwin (niece)10, and Lucinda Haggard 72.

The 1920 Campbell County census, sheet 31A, household ID 126 shows a Lewis F. Grant, 38-widowed, in the household with many other people and regarded as an “Inmate.”
