Sarah Wotring was born in Monongahela, West Virginia, July 11, 1805, and died at her daughter, Mrs. James Osgood's residence, September 23, 1894, aged eighty-nine years, two months and seventeen days, in Green Bay township, Clarke county, Iowa, where she and her husband have had their home since 1875.

John Harsh, her husband passed away the 23rd of October, 1889, since which time she has lived quietly at her daughter's home, where she has had every attention and comfort that a loving daughter and her husband could give.

In her infancy she was baptized and at the age of fifteen years she joined the German Reformed church. About sixty years ago she united with the M. E. church, remaining a member until her death, so the period of her Christian life was about seventy-four years.
She was a member of the first class organized in New Virginia, Iowa. in 1855, and was the mother of eleven children, all of whom are now living, except two. In 1855, she with her husband and family emigrated from West Virginia to Iowa, where she has made her home since. Few persons live to such a good old age as Mother Harsh did; very few spend seventy-four years of Christian living, but Mother Harsh, all along through those many years, remained faithful to the cause of Christ, and in her last sickness she was anxious for the change to come and almost with her dying breath praised the Lord for his blessing and goodness to her. Her remains were laid to rest in New Virginia.
