Samuel Francis Day was the son of John Flint Day and Mary Polly Cozart Day.

Samuel married Amelia W. Philpot on February 19, 1854 in Person Co., North Carolina.

William Samuel Day, never married & no children
John Thomas Day, husband of James H. Frances Shields-Day
Isaac Francis Day, husband of Lula Willett (1st), Martha Ella Terry (2nd), & Dicy Sigler
Mary Elizabeth Day Kennedy, wife of Hawkins W. Kennedy (son of James Kennedy & Sarah Philpot)
Samuel P. Day, died young

Samuel was killed in the Civil War at the First Battle of Bull Run (First Manassas). Gravesite is unknown, most Confederate soldiers buried in Groveton Cemetery are in unmarked graves, linking to family members.

Samuel's wife, Amelia, left for Kentucky after the war along with her sisters and mother.
Samuel's brother, Thomas Cozart Day, also left for Kentucky along with Amelia. Thomas Cozart Day was married to two of Amelia's sisters (Mary Jane Philpot & Nancy Olive Philpot).
