1.) At the home of her son-in-law, Elder H.R. Harder, on May 1, at 10:30 a.m., Mrs. Elizabeth Daugherty, passed to the world beyond, aged 79 years, 5 months, and 24 days. She had been failing for months and her departure was expected.

She was born in Belmont county, Ohio, December 21, 1821, and married Hiram Daugherty in Indiana on April 18, 1839. They were members of the Christian New Light church and gave liberally towards endowing a college of that faith in Indiana.

But while living in Decatur county, Iowa, in 1974, they became satisfied that the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ held the true doctrine and faith, therefore united with it March 25, 1875, being baptized by Elder C.H. Jones. They afterward lived in Kansas but returned to this region in 1889, and Mr. Daugherty died near Ellston, Ringgold county, Iowa, six years ago.

Her character was one of marked uprightness, and she was always ready to labor and sacrifice for the good of others, being very devoted and unselfish in her nature.

She passed away in peace. By her request Elder Henry A. Stebbins preached the discourse over her remains, the service being held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harder.

2.) DAUGHERTY—Elizabeth Nee Hardesty, born December 11, 1821, Richland, Belmont County, Ohio. United in matrimony to Hiram Daugherty April 18, 1839, at Crawfordsville, Ind. To them were born—by adoption—one child, Martha; wife of H. R. Harder, of this place, and by whom she became the grandmother to ten children and three great-grandchildren, who sincerely mourn her decease. For many years she, with her husband, were honored members of the Christian New Light Church, in Indiana. In 1875 with her husband she embraced the faith of Latter Day Saints under the administration of C. H Jones, of the Reorganization, the 25 of March.

She has ever lived a consistent, exemplary, Christian life, loved, honored, and respected by all who became acquainted with her.

In her family relations, she—if it were possible—more than friend and mother, sparing no sacrifice on her part that might contribute for other's comfort.

Her decease occurred May 1, 1901, at the home of her foster daughter in this place at 10:30 a. m., just 6 years lacking one day after the demise of her husband, her age being 79 years, 5 months, and 20 days.

Funeral services were at the residence in charge of Elder John D. Bennett, Elder H. A. Stebbins pronounced the discourse, assisted by Elder Bennett. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery, May 2nd, at 3:30 p.m.
